Ever since I was a kid, my parents’ main goal was to make sure I did well in school and got a college degree. Back then, I had this idea that by obtaining a bachelor’s degree I would automatically be rich and be able to provide for my family without a problem. Along the way I realized that was not necessarily the case. Having a college education definitely helps when searching for a job and it doesn’t mean you will be rich as soon as you graduate, but as long as you apply yourself, you will be well along your way. Along with a degree there are many other factors that contribute to monetary success, such as experience. Before attending college, I knew I did not want to get any further degrees; I just wanted to do my four years and look for a job afterwards. However, while I was in college I began to realize that the majority of my peers were planning on attending graduate school. I realized the job market kept getting more competitive and therefore an additional degree would certainly help make you stand out amongst others.
Over the past couple of years I have learned the hard way, that although having a college degree is helpful, experience is the key. Furthermore, once I graduated college I decided to take a year off to gain more work experience. In that year I definitely learned a lot. I realized what I wanted to do, and the things I needed to do to get there. In the near future I would like to become a hotel sales manager. I feel that besides gaining work experience in the hospitality field, an MBA degree would be of great way to further my career and also accomplish my goal. I believe that an MBA degree will help me gain a better understanding of the administrative side of my field and give me the tools to become a successful sales manager.
