Taj Mahal – A Monument of Immeasurable Beauty
Many consider the Taj Mahal as one of the greatest monuments that has ever existed. Its beauty is magnificent and one of the world’s most beautiful and beloved structures. In fact, in 1983 it was recognized as a World Heritage by the UNESCO (Spiller, 1994). It is also otherwise considered by many as being among the Seven Wonders of the World. This paper seeks to show its identification, invention and ultimate evolution of the Taj Mahal.
Identification and Description of Advancement of Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal was built in Agra, India, by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his late wife. The Taj Mahal sits on a raised platform surrounded by four minarets. Inside are delicate mosaic works and marble walls adorned with intricate patterns of inlaid precious stones.It has inscriptions of Persian and Mughals architecture. It is entirely made by marble to represent a “dream”.
Love between Shah Jahan and Mumtaz
Shah Jahan met Mumtaz when he was 15 years old and fell in love with her at first sight. They got married after a five year struggle over family during which Shah Jahan had two marriages for political reasons. Finally when he was twenty and she was nineteen,they both got married. Shah Jahan had a number of wives but Mumtaz Mahal was the love of his life. In the year 1631, when Mumtaz Mahal was giving birth to their 14th child, she died due to some complications. While Mumtaz was on her deathbed, Shah Jahan promised her that he will never remarry and build the richest mausoleum over her grave. After her death, Shah Jahan reportedly locked himself in his rooms and refused food for eight days. When Shah Jahan died in 1666, his body was placed in a tomb next to the tomb of Mumtaz Mahal.
