Media And The Self

My Inspiring Song:

Marley, Bob (1976) recorded by Bob Marley and the Wailers on album Exodus 1977 Title One love. Recorded in London.

1. The topic of this song is world peace in a way it shows Bob Marley’s desire for everyone in the world to stop fighting and just become one. It also talks though about oppression and how those who do evil things will pay for their actions in the end.

2. The song first attracted me because of its obvious meaning of peace and unity. I still consider an essential part of my life because now that I am older and have learned that things like peace and love with everyone aren’t as easy as you think when your younger it is a great reminder that its still something that we should all aim for.

3. Alfred Alder’s theory on Spirituality, ecology, and community is the theory that I think best matches this song. Alders theory reinstates the meaning of this song to me because it supports the all need to strive towards this one goal of love and acceptance to reach this ideal world of unity.

4. Although I think that this song VERY strongly conveys Adler’s message a way that I think maybe Bob Marley could have made it more psychologically convincing and believable would be to some how say more about it is important to accept and love yourself as a person as well as everyone around you for his dream of unity.

5. A question that might be considered left unanswered I guess could be, why this “one love” lifestyle is such a better way for us to be as a society of humans.

My Inspiring Art:

Carter, Kevin (1993) Vulture Stalking a Child, southern Sudan near village of Ayod, printed in March 26th 1993 issue of New York Times

1. The topic of this piece in my opinion is not just that of starving children but also of the lack of human dignity in some. Personally is I came across this scene would cradle the toddler into my arms (gently) and go find food or medical aid, not stop and take a picture….
