Fill in the following matrix with the experiences on the Union home front and the Confederate home front. Include at least two experiences that illustrate the differences between the two home fronts and two experiences that illustrate the similarities on the two home fronts.

Differences | Social and economic viewpoints were very different. The Union wanted to end slavery, unlike the Confederates. The Union treated slaves like humans and not the property of their owners. Slaves had to work long and hard on their farms. The Union, since it was industrialized, did not rely on slave labor. The Union wanted the government to have more power. | The Confederate Home front didn’t have any wishes to end slavery and considered slaves property. The expected the slaves that ran away to be returned because they saw slaves as property of their owners. Since the Confederacy was not industrialized, it relied heavily on the human labor of slaves. |
Similarities | Both the Union and Confederate home fronts faced hardship. During the war they faced hardship from factors like, disease, bad medical care, lack of food, corruption of morality, and rising number of deaths. They both suffered from moral decay. Women of both sides did find new opportunities to work outside of home. | Both the Union and Confederate home fronts faced hardship.
