Pride
This movie is based on true events it tells a story of a young charismatic schoolteacher in the early 1970s that wanted to change the lives of others forever. He found an African American swim team from Philadelphia’s bad neighborhood. This move was directed by Sunu Gonera and had some cast that was award nominee just as Terrence Howard, Bernie Mac, and Kimberly Elise. Jim Ellis (Terrance Howard) was not able to find a job he was so into swimming to where he landed a job at a recreational center that is about to be closed down.
In the mist of all that he meets some trouble kids that’s in need of some help and he teaches them to swim. But before he could reach his goal he learns to find out the center he has grown to love is about to be demolition. The schoolteacher fights back by recruiting the first black swim team but is side track from racism, violence and the city trying to tear down the building. This teacher must do all that he can to prove to the kids that it’s not where you come from its what you can do to make a change to reach their goals in life.
I can say that is movie is about team sprit as well as it shows you that if you believe in yourself others will believe in you as well it was all about pushing themselves to the limit and not only pushing but being as one as a team. These kids didn’t think that they could do anything because the life that they once lived. There were so many bad parts to where I just wanted to cry. It brought up racism and it made you think of the way things was when my grandparents was growing up and it brought tears to my eyes. But then you had those moments to where they had so much fun and enjoyed themselves throughout the movie
Jim Ellis went on to receive an award from the President from the International Swimming Hall of Fame, as well as still coaches for the Salvation Army Kroc Aquatics which is located in Philadelphian based Kroc Center. His program at the Marcus Foster Pool has sent swimmers from all...
