Environmental Issue

IS THE GOVERNMENTS’ ROLE MORE EFFECTIVE THAN ORAGNISATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS’ ROLE IN DEALING WITH ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE (CORAL REEFS)?

Nowadays, environment is under threat. Therefore, governments, organizations and individuals’ efforts are in race with time in dealing with environmental issues to find solutions for that problem. One of these issues is coral reefs. A coral reef is a sort of biotic reef that develops in tropical waters by the growth of algae and other marine organism. In addition, coral reefs are massive biogenic formation of calcium carbonate (limestone) that is deposited within or around the bodies of the inhabitants of the reef as skeletal material. Moreover, it aids an exceeding amount of biodiversity, although located in nutrient poor tropical waters. Also, this massive formation is home to a variety of tropical fishes, such as angelfish. Furthermore, it is recognized as home to a large variety of other organisms, including Cnidarians as jellyfish, worms, crustaceans as crabs, echinoderms as starfish, sea turtles and sea snakes. Over 4,000 species of fishes inhabit coral reefs (Spalding et al., 2001). A few of these varied species feed directly on corals, while others graze on algae on the reef and participate in complex food webs (Castro and Huber, 2000; Spalding et al., 2001). In fact, land-based pollution, over fishing, global warming and tourism put this ecosystem under threat. Therefore, governments, organizations and individuals play significant roles to protect coral reefs from these problems. It is difficult to verify which one is the most effective in protecting the coral reefs. Hence, the purpose of this essay is to explain the roles of governments, organizations and individuals in dealing with this environmental issue, and to show that the government role is the most effective in protecting coral reefs.

In the issue of land-based pollution which is the most serious threat to coral reefs because it increases the...
