Engish Cloning Research

Major Points

Forms of Cloning

Techniques

Foremost, many people these days have more of a science fiction view on cloning when in reality it is nothing like these films at all. Even though there has been many methods for cloning proposed. Only one of these methods is actually successful in its goal of cloning a strand of DNA or a specific cell. The method of cloning that was successful in such experiments as the cloning of Dolly the sheep is called reproductive cloning. But even from just this one method of cloning scientists have been able to use it in multiple different ways. Some of the different forms of cloning that scientists have discovered and successfully conducted include DNA cloning also known as recombinant DNA, reproductive, and therapeutic cloning.

Process

Furthermore, the majority of the cloning techniques use the same concept as one another. The form of cloning known as recombinant DNA or DNA cloning is used for cloning one strand of DNA from one organism. The way in which this takes place is scientists isolate one specific strand of DNA that they want to replicate. The then remove the plasmid, which is an extra ring of DNA that can be found in bacteria, and they insert the DNA

from another organism into the plasmid ring. The plasmids which has been united with the DNA strand is inserted back into the bacteria, so that when that bacteria replicated it

makes copies of the DNA that was inserted into it. An example of recombinant DNA being used to produce insulin for diabetics to use, in order for scientists to do this they insert a fragment of DNA taken from pig insulin and insert it into bacterium. The result of this after the bacterium replicate is millions of bacterium producing insulin that humans can use.

Two other types of cloning that are being used or research today are reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. Reproductive cloning is used to create a clone of an existing or previously existing...
