As students in highschool, our lives center around many different things. For some people it might be theater, sports , academics, or friends. As for me I'm a big nerd and band is what my life centers around. I love music. I basically listen to all types. I also play the flute in marching and concert band. I also play piano. Being in band and having a musical background has helped shaped me into the person I am today.
Band has helped me in many ways one of them being , how to work together with people. Marching band is very team work oriented because we have to get to work together toward a common goal. It also helped me learn that even though you might not particulary for that person, you should still put aside your differences and work together. Even though it might be hard sometimes, I just had to suck it up. Band also gave me a chance to meet new people. That was a major thing for me because when I first came to Southwest I didn't really now anybody because I didn't go to Scott like most of the students. So I was at a disadvantage. When I got to know the people in my section I instantly had twenty new friends.
Being in the band also helped me learn discipline. It helped with learn to manage my time better because during marching season we had 7:15am practices three times a week. So I had to learn to manage my time wisely and get homework done right away so I could get to bed early so I wouldn't be tired when I woke up pretty early. I also had to manage my time because I needed time to practice so I had to figure out which things were important and which were not so I had to get everything that I needed done. This is one the main things that band really helped me with, because like most students I am a big procrastinator.
Band doesn't seem like it would be a lot of hard work but it is. We put a lot of time and effort into our shows and concerts. During the summer when we could out having fun swimming and hanging out with our friends we are out...
